The file

Kakume means square eyes, and the nickname does the specification sheet's job: two square registers on a blue or champagne dial, orange accents, a tachymeter ring, and forty-three millimeters of the least apologetic design language of the 1970s. The domestic Japanese version wears 5 Sports Speed-Timer text, a variant collectors cross the JDM premium for.

The Kakume's hazard is gentler than the Bullhead's: mostly honest wear, faded chapter rings, and the occasional franken assembled from the family parts bin. The blue dial's black chapter ring and the champagne's orange one are fixed pairings, and the wrong combination is the quickest tell.

FROM THE FILE

The design piece of the family. Buy it for the dial you will actually look at: even fading on the blue, clean orange on the champagne, and a chapter ring that matches its catalog pairing. The JDM Speed-Timer text is a legitimate premium; everything else is the usual era-consistency homework.

Before you bid: the checklist

  • Chapter ring pairings are fixed. Blue dial with black ring, champagne with orange. Crossed pairings are assemblies.
  • JDM text is a variant, not an upgrade kit. Speed-Timer dials belong on JDM cases with agreeing serials, not on export watches.

Production runs end. The file on the reference never does.
